BABY AND TODDLER LESSONS FAQ'S

What is the cost of the baby/pre-school lessons?
Whilst we pride ourselves on offering the highest quaility lessons for all ages, we also want to enable as many people to partake in swimming lessons whether babies, children or adults so we try to keep our lessons affordable. Lessons cost £9:50 per baby/parent couple – in many cases this is not much more than entry to the pools we use! When booking or having been offered a space, full termly payment is expected in order to complete enrolment (usually term is 11/14 week and dates run alongside school term dates and holidays).

What age can my baby start lessons?
Babies can start swimming with us from birth although we recommend around three months as they can struggle to maintain their body temperature prior to this. Many parents feel more comfortable waiting until after baby has had their immunisations, although they do not have had to complete their course of immunisation to take part. Care should always be taken when disposing of nappies and these should never be left at any of our pools. Further research on this can be seen on the NHS website www.immunisation.org.uk

What does my baby need to wear in the water?
All non toilet/potty trained children must wear a double swim nappy system. This consists of a disposable or a washable swim nappy with a neoprene nappy over the top to avoid any leaks! We sell these for £8 or you can purchase them at online retailers. Please let us know if you would like to purchase a 'Splash About Happy Nappy' from us and we can discuss sizes and bring one to the pool for the first lesson.

Over nappies must be a snug fit to work properly so please do not buy a larger size to last longer – unfortunately they do not work like that. You will not be allowed into the water without both correct nappies as nappy leaks into the water will result in cancelling classes to clean the pool.

What changing facilities are available?
Changing facilities vary from pool to pool. Many pools offer basic changing with some showers available. We advise that if you cannot shower your child then you should give them a bath or shower on returning home. There are some changing mats available, however we recommend you bring a travel mat in case all those provided are in use, and for hygiene reasons.

What if my child has a cold or is unwell?
It is not wise to bring your child swimming with anything more than a cold. Your child is unlikely to enjoy swimming at this time and please consider the other children in your group as your child will most likely spread germs. If they have had any sickness or diarrhoea they must not swim until after 48 hours after their last episode so as to not spread illness.
